FS BUILDER RESOURCES: ACHIEVING MULTI-DIVISIONAL EFFICIENCY AND GROWTH THROUGH A DIGITAL MATURITY EXPERIENCE
FS Builder Resources (FSBR) is a leading provider of construction materials and services, comprising multiple specialized divisions, including Flooring Services, Blinds, IBS Lighting, Stone Resources, and Premier Stair & Door. FSBR operates across key markets such as Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Baton Rouge, offering a wide range of solutions for residential and commercial construction projects. Renowned for its diverse product portfolio and commitment to quality service, FSBR has established itself as a critical partner for the homebuilding industry.
As the organization expanded, FSBR faced operational inefficiencies stemming from manual processes, decentralized data management, and a lack of cross-divisional integration. Recognizing this, FSBR approached Cooperative Computing to help modernize their operations through digital enablement, addressing numerous operational challenges including manual processes, data management issues, and efficiency bottlenecks across their divisions.
The Roadmap to FS Builder Resources’ Digital Maturity Experience
Having gained deep insight into FSBR’s unique requirements and challenges, Cooperative Computing conducted a comprehensive Digital Maturity Experience, providing guidance throughout the process. This enabled FSBR to understand their current digital maturity level and gain a strategic roadmap toward their envisioned future state of digital enablement. The journey focused on achieving operational efficiency, enabling data-driven decision-making, and growing revenue to enable them to achieve record results in their business.
The Digital Maturity experience consisted of 3 phases as follows:
- Digital Maturity Assessment
- Digital Maturity Strategy
- Digital Maturity Execution
Each phase involved the creation of specific deliverables designed to facilitate FSBR’s growth toward Digital Maturity.
Digital Maturity Assessment
The initial phase of the journey involved a comprehensive understanding of FSBR’s operational framework. Cooperative Computing conducted a thorough evaluation of the company’s organizational capabilities, methods and procedures, systems and technologies, and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to uncover inefficiencies and develop a tailored roadmap.
The Digital Maturity Assessment involved 67 key stakeholders from FSBR resulting in 133 different business processes being mapped, reimagined and optimized. This revealed 227 key issues needing to be addressed, such as a heavy reliance on manual processes that caused workflow fragmentation, delays, and unnecessary mistakes. Furthermore, the analysis highlighted digital system redundancies and inconsistencies in data management, which impacted operational efficiency.
This information was consolidated into a 281-page comprehensive Digital Maturity Assessment report, gathering insights from discussions with business, functional, and technical stakeholders across all divisions. The report detailed the people and organizational capabilities, methods and procedures, systems and technologies, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of each business function. The final section synthesized key insights and critical issues FSBR was facing in their journey toward Digital Maturity.
Digital Maturity Strategy
After gaining a thorough understanding of FSBR’s current digital maturity, Cooperative Computing helped strategize, outline and document a desired future state. This vision addressed the challenges they faced and enhanced their business performance across all divisions.
Following this, Cooperative Computing conducted a comprehensive analysis to design FSBR’s future state, providing detailed visualizations depicting current and future states of their data services and operations. The future state diagrams showcased improvements in the following.
Data-Driven Decisions
The strategy emphasized creating a unified data management platform that would centralize information across all divisions. By introducing advanced analytical tools and customizable dashboards, the platform enabled FSBR leadership to access real-time operational insights. This empowered decision-makers to identify trends, allocate resources effectively, and drive performance improvements.
Operational Excellence
Operational excellence was further pursued by standardizing workflows across divisions. These standardized processes replaced inconsistent practices, reducing errors and fostering efficiency. Inventory management systems were upgraded to ensure accurate tracking, while streamlined order fulfillment processes minimized delays and enhanced customer satisfaction.
Process Automation
Hyper automation emerged as a cornerstone of this strategy. Key functions including invoicing, installation scheduling, and customer communication were digitized. These automations reduced manual effort, minimized errors, and improved service delivery across all divisions.
Digital Maturity Execution
In the final phase, Cooperative Computing translated the strategic plan into actionable initiatives, ensuring seamless execution while minimizing disruptions to FSBR’s operations.
A unified Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system was implemented to integrate data and processes across divisions. This system provided FSBR with a single source of truth for operational data, enhancing visibility and decision-making capabilities. Automated workflows were introduced to handle critical tasks more efficiently, significantly reducing processing times and errors.
To sustain these improvements, a Master Data Management (MDM) team was established to oversee data integrity and consistency. Additionally, comprehensive training programs equipped FSBR’s workforce with the skills needed to leverage new tools and systems effectively. Regular assessments and optimizations were also implemented to maintain momentum and ensure continuous improvement.
Following the digital maturity experience, Cooperative Computing facilitated FSBR in achieving desired outcomes including the following.
Enhanced Operational Efficiency
Through process automation and standardization, FSBR achieved streamlined operations across all divisions, reducing manual intervention and improving productivity.
Improved Data Management
The implementation of centralized data systems enabled better decision-making capabilities and real-time visibility across the organization.
Optimized Business Processes
Automated workflows and integrated systems led to reduced processing times, improved accuracy, and enhanced customer service across all divisions.
